Project

Buzz Bingo closed in 2020 and the prominent site offers the opportunity to regenerate this part of the town centre with better designed, more suitable buildings in the heart of Chatham. The proposed development offers 231 homes, in a mix of one, two and three-bedroom apartments

‍The site offers sustainable town-centre living within walking distance of public transport connections and public amenities, including the High Street.

Transforming an existing site

Having been closed for more than two years, the proposal would redevelop the former Buzz Bingo site at the junction of Union Street/The Brook and the A2 New Road in Chatham.

Creating new homes

The proposed scheme – divided between two blocks – will incorporate outside space that is landscaped for use as a communal area and expands upon the green space along the Brook and Union Street.

Outside space

All homes will have access to private amenity space, with the vast majority having private balconies or terraces. The proposed new homes will comply with national space standards and reflect the council’s policy requirements. The ground floor will incorporate flexible commercial space and the provision of 95 parking spaces.

The homes will be low-cost and energy-efficient, generating up to 60% less carbon than required by current building regulations. The proposals ensure there is no direct overlooking into habitable rooms, granting greater privacy for residents.

Materiality

Materials are inspired by the history of the area, offering a modern take on traditional designs to be found in Medway – and the immediate area of the High Street.

Height and massing

The buildings have been carefully designed to sit below the height of the neighbouring Bryant Towers, fitting into the gradual slope of the landscape. This allows the development to blend into the location, maintaining views across the town.
